About the Metal

This tray is metal and nothing else. Electroformed metal is grown rather than cut, so it can follow a fin or a scale line into detail that would be lost in a mold, and it comes out with genuine substance instead of the thinness of a pressed sheet.

The two finishes behave differently. Antique gold is warm and uneven, sitting darker in the grooves between the fins so the motif is easy to read across the surface. Silver is brighter and colder and bounces more light, which sharpens the outline of the fish and makes the fine lines look crisper.

How It’s Made

The form takes after the flowing fins of a betta fish, the fish and fin motif carried across the face of the dish and out into the rim. The tray is a shallow round, 8" across and 0.5" high, built up in the electroforming bath until the detail holds in metal with real thickness. It is offered in an antique gold or a silver finish.

Each piece is finished by hand, so the tone of the antique gold and the depth of the shading in the fins are never quite identical.
