About the Blue Agate

Agate is a banded quartz, and in the blue stone the bands read as a slow gradient: a saturated blue core easing out through steel and gray to a chalky white edge. Because the stone is hewn rather than sawn to a template, the outline follows the piece and stays slightly irregular.

Light is what separates one band from the next. The paler layers are close to translucent and carry daylight through the plate, while the dense blue layers stop it, so the same tray looks graphic near a window and much quieter across the room.

How It’s Made

Each tray is hand hewn from natural agate and then trimmed with electroformed brass: metal grown onto the stone edge until it has real thickness and is permanently bonded, not a leaf or coating that can rub off. A plain loop handle is fitted at each end, and the handles are solid brass. The tray and handles are finished in silver, rose gold or gold.
